Desmond Clarke is an artist, composer and performer working with ideas of automation, generation and iteration. His work spans from visual art, created with a modified vintage pen plotter, to extended-reality performances and multimedia installations. Building on a PhD in algorithmic musical composition from the University of York, Clarke’s artwork unpicks the relationships between simple processes and their complex results, and explores the intersections between mathematical and natural structures at the boundaries between figurative and abstract, between order and randomness.
